Mercury 1. The closest planet to the sun. 2. 35.9 million miles away from the sun. 3. 107,000 mph around the sun. 4. One day on mercury is 58.7 earth days. 5. A year on mercury is 88 earth days.
Venus 1. thick cloud that covers venus making it hard to see the surface. 2. if you weighed 70 pound on venus you would weigh 63 pounds. 3. It has the hottest tempreture of all the planets. 4. in many ways venus is similar to earth. 5. The major differance is its to hot for any life.
Earth 1. Earth is the biggest of all the terrestrial planets. 2. Earth is an oasis of life in an otherwise desolate universe. 3. The Earth's temperature, weather, atmosphere and many other factors are just right to keep us alive. 4. The Earth has one moon. 5. The moons name is Luna.
Mars 1. If you weighed 70 pounds on the Earth, you would weigh about 27 pounds on Mars 2. Mars excites scientists because its mild temperament is more like the Earth's than any of the other planets. 3. As Mars' atmosphere slowly depleted into outer space the surface water began to permanently evaporate. 4. Today the only water on Mars is either frozen in the polar caps, or underground.
Jupiter 1. if you weighed 70 pounds on earth you would weigh 185 on Jupiter. 2. Jupiter's great red spot visible in the picture to the right is where a giant storm has been raging for at least 300 years. 3. its super hurricane winds blow across an area larger than the Earth. 4. This giant planet has no solid surface.
1. just like Uranus if you weighed 70pounds you would weigh 82 on Saturn. 2. Its beautiful rings are 169,800 miles wide, but less thick than a football field. 3. In many ways Saturn is similar to Jupiter, but it is much smaller. 4. Under the clouds of methane and helium the sky gradually turns into liquid until it becomes a giant ocean of liquid chemicals.
Uranus 1. you would weigh more on Uranus than earth. 2. If you weighed 70 pounds you would weigh 82 pounds on Uranus. 3. Uranus is very cold. 4. Uranus spins on its side unlike other planets and moons. 5. Uranus may have water underneath the clouds because of the rocky core.
Neptune 1. if you weighed 70 pounds on earth you would weigh 84 pounds on Neptune. 2. Neptune has a giant storm much like the storm on Jupiter. 3. This storm is often called The Great Dark Spot. 4. For many centuries people did not know that Neptune even exsisted. 5. It was discovered by Johann Galle and Heinrich D'Arrest in 1846.
Pluto 1. Because Pluto is so small you would be very light if you visited. If you weigh 70 pounds on Earth, you would only weigh 4 pounds on Pluto. 2. Pluto is smaller than 7 of the moons in the Solar System. 3. Because it is so small many scientists don't consider it a planet at all. 4. In 1999 a group of scientists attempted to redesignate Pluto as a comet.
