Coming of Age Project!!!!
Teenage Wasteland is about a teenage boy who throws his life away to drugs, alcohol, and failing school. The mother of Donny doesn't know what to do with his actions and feels like she has failed as a mother. Her last resort is going to psychologist tutor who connects to Donny tremendously. After things started to going well again, but one day after his mother believes he had alcohol in his locker and is expelled, he runs away forever.
ELEMENTS OF FICTION Theme is the message that is portrayed in the story by the author and the main idea of the story. Symbol is something that resembles something else in the story like a person, object, or place. Conflict is a problem between the your self or something in esle in the world. Characteres are the people in the story which have unique qualities which describe them. Epiphany is when a character has a realization of something important or significant.
Adjo means Goodbye is about two young girls who develop a strong friendship in an instant. They share so many great memories together, then everything falls apart. This is because Carrie is African American. Marget is white. Marget's mother wants to protect her child and tells Marget she can't be friends with Carrie anymore. They are both devestated, but they always will remember their time they shared together.

The element of fiction that was portrayed perfectly in the short story was theme. The theme of the story was once you have a true friend, you willl always remember them and stay in your heart. This was evident in the story because even though Carrie and Marget couldn't be friends anymore, they will always recall the numerous times they shared together. A connection to the element is the old disney channel movie, The Color of Friendship. In the movie, they were great friends and then they had to seperate because they were different colors, but they never forgot each other.
Lousia, Please Come Home is about a 17year old that runs away from her home. She travels all by herself and her plan to run away was successful. As her mom kept telling her to come home every year on the news, she is living with Mrs. Peacock, comfortable with her new home. When one day her neighbor finds her, he brings her back home to recieve the reward.. Once she arrives, her family doesn't believe its her, so she has to go back and live with Mrs. Peacock.
The Element of Fiction that was shown in this short story was characters. The two characters that showed their personality the most was Marian and Addie who was one of the older women that was bedridden. Marian is a innocent little girl who is bored out of her mind sitting in a nursing home. She is anxious to leave the nursing home as soon as possible. Addie is a cranky old lady who has been bedridden for a long time and she is extremely lonely. She has no one to be there for her and with her through everything. A connection to this element is when I visited a nursery home, and I saw the depression and sadness in the old women's eyes because they were lonely.
Louisa, Please Come Home by Shirley Jackson
The element of fiction that is used well in the story would be epiphany when Lousia came home after she ran away and her family didn't believe it was her and rejected her. Louisa then realized that she could never have a real family again. The connection I can make to this element is that kids run away all the time and they are scared to come back because they think that their families won't accept them again.
Two Kinds os about a mother who wants her daughter to be a progidy. The girl's mother makes her try everything and the daughter is sick of having her mom making her into something she's not. When her mother makes her take piano, she doesn't try very hard and then messes up during her performence. After this, her daughter confronts her mother about everything she is turning her into and after, she realizes her mother just wants her to have a good future. But, she also realizes that she can't be anyone, but her self and no one can change that.
Two Kinds by Amy Tan
The element of fiction that was viewed well in this short story was conflict. The conflict of this story was between the mother and the daughter. The mother was trying to make the daughter into what she wanted and something her daughter didn't want to be. In the story, her mother made her try many different things like piano that the daughter didn't want to do. I can make a connection to this element because sometimes I get in a fight with my mom, but I realize after that she is just trying to help me and be happy.
The element of fiction that was displayed in Teenage Wasteland was Symbol. The basketball was the symbol and this applied to the story because it resembled Donny's life. First, he was doing well as a child and then feel through the hoop and went down to the ground, wasting his life. A connection to the symbol because everyone has a drop in life and they fall from the hoop from the symbolic basketball net.
A Visit to Charity is about a young Campfire Girl who has to visit a nursing home for points toward a badge. The secretary at the nursing home directs her into a room with two elderly women. They talk for a while and Marian, the little girl, notices how depressed these women are in the home. These older ladies have been arguing the whole time she was there and Marian can see on these women's faces how upset they are there.
