The History of Telescopes
The earliest telescopes appeared in 1608 and are created by Hans Lippershey. The design of these early telescopes consisted of a convex objective lens and a concave eyepiece. Galileo used it in that same year. In 1611, Johannes Kepler showed how a telescope could be made with a convex objective and eyepiece lens.
Different Types of Telescopes
Optical telescopes gather and focuses light mainly from the visible part of the electromagnetic spectrum. Optical telescopes increase the angular size of distant objects.
Radio telescopes are directional radio antennas that often have a parabolic shape. The dishes are sometimes constructed of wire mesh openings that are smaller than the wavelength being looked at.
High-energy astronomy requires telescopes to make observations since most of these particles go through metals and glasses. They are X-ray telescopes use Wolter telescopes of ring-shaped mirrors made of heavy metals that are able to reflect to the rays.
1. Galileo observed the sun with his telescope. NEVER NEVER EVER look at the Sun through a telescope that is not filtered. It can blind you. 2. He discovered small dark spots on the Sun, which are now call sunspots. 3. Galileo's telescope for the first time showed that the Moon was blemished and not perfect. 4. Discovered Jupiter's four largest Moons: Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto. 5. He observed that Saturn hasbumps on either side, but could not make out the other details.
