Amazing Rugby Tries!
Did You Know? Rugby football initially origionated from Rugby, Warwickshire, England.
RUGBY: Southam Published Date: 08 December 2008 Southam beat Shipston Southam 15 Shipston 11 Southam's winning form continued with a very good home performance in front of a large crowd who had sat down for the annual Christmas dinner. After last week's win it was important to try and build a gap between the bottom two and start a move up the table. Southam again started with a different line up as they have done most of the season with unavailability's and injuries but this performance has to be one of the best they have played all season. Southam started the game facing the blinding sun and although they dominated the set piece areas they were put under the cosh a little with some nice tactical play from shipston using the sun to their advantage however it was Southam's mistakes or ill discipline that allowed Shipston to score all there points in this half to no reply. The second half was a different story and Southam continued to dominate the scrummaging and lineout however this time they never allowed Shipston to play and were constantly putting them under pressure through the forwards and with ten minutes of the half gone Southam got its just reward with a try from Will Lyne. Southam didn't take its foot of the pedal at all in this half and again was soon rewarded with a penalty which was nicely kicked by Roger Killick. The game now had 15 minutes left and Southam seemed to be camped on Shipstons line but could not score however Shipston's defence was excellent. Southam did find their way over with only three minutes left and again it was forward dominance that created this and it was scored by Ed Ellis this was also converted by Roger Killick. Southam seen the last couple of minutes out professionally and this brought the final whistle to end the game. Shipston 2nds 17 Southam 2nds 15 As the score says this was a close fought encounter against a useful Shipston outfit who certainly knew they had been in a game come the final whistle. Southam travelled with a team full of youth and experience and credit goes to all as they all played a part. Southam points came from Charlie Johnson try, skipper Andy King a try and Tom Robinson added a conversion and a penalty. Special mentions must go to Billy Haigh, Abes, Dan Haynes, Chris Line and Gary Summers these all added that bit extra to a good team performance. Southam 3rds 14 Berkswell And Ballsall 2nds 24 Credit must go to Andy King for getting out a third team as well as a second team this week. The 3rds consisted of mainly youngsters and found the experienced Berkswell outfit just that bit too strong, however they equipped themselves well and their points came from the Exceptional Ian Cooper who also converted both of his own tries.
