The Cell Phone Revolution
Motorola introduced the 16-ounce "DynaTAC" phone into commercial service in 1983, with each phone costing the consumer $3,500.
On April 3, 1973, Motorola demonstrated the world’s first hand-held cell phone. It made Popular Science’s July 1973 cover.
In 1984 Fortune magazine predicted a million users by the end of 1989. The actual figure was 3.5 million.
In 1990 Donaldson, Lufkin, Jenrette predicted 56 to 67 million users by 2000. They were off by 40 to 50 million.
On April 3, 1973, Martin Cooper demonstrated the first public telephone call placed on a portable cellular phone.
