The Immigration and Refugee Protection act is a set of rules and guidelines for people who want to immigrate into Canada. Canada does not simply let every person that wants to immigrate into the country. However, if our country did do that then criminals would end up entering Canada and people might come in with diseases and infect Canadians. This immigrant and refugee protection act is strict and only allows immigrants that can benefit the country into Canada. The goals of the immigrant and refugee protection act are to get Canada to have the most social, cultural and economic benefits that come from people immigrating. It is made to make Canada stronger economically and make Canada grow multicultural. By accepting immigration into Canada it makes minority language groups stronger. Another goal of this is too reunite separated families and friends, while keeping Canadian citizens safe from harm. For refugees the objectives are to have a safe haven for people fleeing from a corrupt or unstable country ruled by a bad government. Also, the protection act is made to protect the health and safety of all Canadian citizens. The act is to reunite broken families and give them a better life than previous. One of the refugee protection acts main points is too refuse to allow criminals into Canada. Without the immigration and refugee protection act Canada would become very unstable. The safety of Canadians would be taken away, criminals and diseases would enter Canada, and there would be chaos. On the other hand, the immigrant and refugee protection act keeps criminals and diseases out of Canada and lets the willing and able into our beautiful country. In addition, this protection act gives refugees a place of safety when in doubt. The immigrant and refugee protection act keeps Canada in order and safe.
The Canadian Quebec Accord is about how many Francophones enter Quebec. The whole reason why it is used is to increase the population of French people in Quebec. Using the Canadian Quebec accord increases French population in Quebec by taking immigrants that come into Canada and sending a certain amount of them into Quebec. When an immigrant or refugee that is a francophone comes into Canada they are suggested to go to Quebec to live. The accord is made to make sure that Quebec is continuously growing with people of French culture. Without the Canadian Quebec accord, Quebec would not rapidly grow in francophone culture and there would be a lack of French speaking people in Quebec.
The Singh Decision The Facts 1. Satnam Singh came to Canada from India seeking refugee status. Canada's Government rejected his case under the Immigration Act, 1976. 2. The Immigration Act, 1976, did not allow Mr. Singh to state his case in person or to appeal to the government's decision on his case. 3. The Supreme Court said this voilated section 7 of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, which says that everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of the person and the right not to be deprived thereof, except in accordance with the principles of fundamental justice. 4. The Supremem Court said everyone in the Charter means everyone. THE RESULTS 1. People claiming refugee status in Canada have the right to a hearing, which they attend in person. 2. Canada estaqblished the Immigration and Refugee Board to provide quick and fair hearings. 3. Canada's government provides people seeking refugee status with the necessities of life while they wait for a hearing.
No one today is excluded from Canada because of their race or country of origin. The point system, for example, evaluates people based on their skillls and education. In the past, Canada favoured immigrants of British ancestry and restricited immigration from Asian countries, such as China and India.
