Fashion in the 1920s!
When someone thinks about the fashion in the 1920s they think of women as "Flappers". A flapper is a women in the 1920s that would show her collarbone, wear dresses that would come to the knee, and cut their hair in a bobbed hair cut.
Hair was first bobbed, then shingled, then Eton cropped in 1926-7. An Eton crop was considered daring and shocked some older citizens, since hair had always been thought a woman's crowning glory. Only maiden aunts and elderly dowagers avoided the severe shorter styles, but by the 1930s softer waved hairstyles were a refreshing change.
Outlining the post WWI mood in men's fashion, this essay includes descriptions of knickerbockers, patent leather, and the popularity of Oxford bags.
During the early twenties cream or ivory colored face power was used by most women. Later in the middle of the twenties, a more natural skin color was made for women's faces. After this blush was made in rose, raspberry, and around 1925 also oranges were popular. Also in the mid twenties lipstick was made popular in colors like deep red, deep brownish reds, plum and orange. At the end of the twenties colors like rose, raspberry and medium red were the new trend. Eyes were kept dark in the 1920s. To get this look the whole eye was edged with a black eyeliner. The eyelid was then shaded with dark gray and then later turquoise and green eyeshadows were also in fashion. Eyelashes were also painted black and eyebrows were plucked very thin and slanted downward. Fingernails were only painted in the middle of the nail, the half-moon and tip were left bare or white.
