LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP by Emily Bronte Love is like the wild rose-briar; Friendship like the holly-tree. The holly is dark when the rose-briar blooms, But which will bloom most constantly? The wild rose-briar is sweet in spring, Its summer blossoms scent the air; Yet wait till winter comes again, And who will call the wild-briar fair? Then, scorn the silly rose-wreath now, And deck thee with the holly's sheen, That, when December blights thy brow, He still may leave thy garland green.
Poetry analysis This poem is written by Emily Bronte, an English author. This is a traditional poem, with three stanzas where all contains four lines. This poem has also got some rhyme in the two last stanzas, where the last words rhyme. The meaning of this particular poem can be a great many things. We can all see this in different ways. I will say that love and friendship, as in the title is the main themes. Love is more beautiful than friendship, when love is the rose-briar, and friendship is the holly-tree. Love blossoms in the summer, and in wintertime it fades. Then you have friendship to rely on, which will always be there. Because the holly is less beautiful, it can fade compared to the rose-briar, but again it is most reliable.
