Leonardo father was Piero Da Vinci, a notary, his mother was Caterina a peasant women. After his parents spilt they continued to have children making him have 17 half brothers and sisters. He stayed with his Father and had access to scholary texts owned by family and friends.
When Leonardo was 15 his father apprenticed him to the workshop of Andrea del Verrochi in Florence. As an apprentice Leonadro demonstrated talent. One of Leonardo’s first big breaks was to paint an angel in Verrochio’s “Baptism of Christ,” Leonardo was much better then his master and Verrochio said he would never paint again. Leonardo stayed with Verrocchio workshop for 10 years then he set up a shingle for himself.
Leonardo was a Renaissance man because he was a well rounded man. He was a scientist. He studied the anatomy of corpses and nature. Leonardo was also an inventor. He invented gears, which are used in today in helicopters and cranes. Leonardo was most famous for being a painter his two most famous paintings are the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper.
