Desert Bighorn Sheep
Desert Bighorn Sheep's scientific name is Ovis canadenis nelson. It lives in the southwest United States, and some Northern regions of Mexico. Desert Bighorn Sheep are very heavy and stocky kind of build. they are similiar in size of mule deer. They range from 125-200 pounds. Ewes are somewhat smaller. They have soft hooves which allows they to grip the steep mountains of the desert. Both sexes develop horns, females are much smaller though. A ram's horns can grow up to 3 feet long. An average rams head weighs 30 pounds. The thing that makes them so different from other bighorn sheep is there ability to go long periods of time with out water. They have the ability to loose 30% of their body
