Assisted Suicide
assisted suicide is a form of self-inflicted death, usually performed by a close friend, family member or physician
I beleive that it is ethical to preform assisted suicide. I beleive this becasue if someone is suffering so much that they don't want to live, then it is our responsibility as a community to honor that request.
The technology involved in assisted suicide is the Exit Bag customized for asphyxiation, and a closed circuit breathing system called the Debreather. The science that goes along with this is the medicine/drugs used to kill the patient. The patient takes one of two kinds of barbiturates. Seconal costs about $125 for a lethal 10 gram dose, which comes in the form of 100 individual caplets that must be broken apart to produce about three tablespoons of powder. Nembutal comes in a more convenient liquid form. It costs more than $1,000 for a dose, though, and insurance almost never covers lethal drugs.
Of the 65 people who died under the Oregon law in 2010 (70.8%) of them were over the age of 65, all were white and all had cancer.
Assisted suicide is illegal in all states except for Oregon. It is also legal in Belgium, Switzerland and the Netherlands.
