Say NO to cigarettes!
Smoking Kills
ADDICTION. . . What is it? Addiction is something called a habit or the need for something, like cigarettes. Addiction is horrible when you're trying to quit smoking and it's tough to overcome. TIPS FOR QUITTING 1. Start slowly, if you have one less cigarette a day the need for them will start to die. 2. Ask for help! Sure your parents might be upset with you but at least they'll forgive you in the end. Especially if they want you to live! 3. Talk to a councelor. Or someone who will listen. Life is precious and we never realize this until it's to late. People make bad descisions and they sometimes can turn around and go right back to a better life. It's too bad my Nana (Grandma) didn't realize this. YOU CAN NEVER, EVER RUN AWAY FROM DEATH. She developed a disease called Emphysema and it was tough to watch her almost every day, having to use a breathalyzer to give her the needed air that her body could not provide. Her body was frail and she hardly ate or drank anything save for a few glasses of whine every day. There was another thing that she did that I hated, and that was smoking cigarettes. She told me almost every day that she was planning to quit but she couldn't and wouldn't. Finally on April 30th 2007, her habits caught up with her giving her a stroke. I recieved the news from my mother's friend who was watching tv on the couch in my living room. I had just arrived home from youth group and when she told me I started to cry loudly and i screamed at her, ''Why! Why does she have to die"'' She looked at me solemnly and said she didn't know. Over the next couple of days my mother tried to comfort me and tell me that Nana would be in a better place. But i didn't listen . All I could think about was those blasted cigarettes she smoked. My mom didn't think I should go to see her because she was in a coma. She died on May 3 in the hospital and all I remember is the heartache i felt for the past half a year and the memories of her still haunt me today. Smoking causes heartache, out og money, maybe out of friends and a job, and even death. Please, PLEASE don't smoke, your family loves you and wouldn't want you gone! Smoking only causes haertache and it's not going to solve your problems no matter what. Please, take advantage of the opportunities offered in this country to help quit smoking! Brittany
