The Hunger Games By Suazanne Collins

Katniss Everdeen- A sixteen year old girl who has been fighting for her live and those of her mother and little sister's since her father died. She lives in the nation of Panem in the twelfth district. She has to hunt all of her food and trade for it. She volenteers for the hunger games when her eleven year old sister is chosen. Peeta Mellark- A sixteen year old boy who was also chosen for the Hunger Games. He is the son of the town baker and is also from District twelve. Effie Trinket- District twelve's escort, the person who makes sure the tributes get to the Capitol. She is also in charge of the tributes.
Haymitch Abernathy- A past victor of the Hunger Games, this middle aged man is put in charge of training and ensuring that the tributes from District twelve stay alive. He is an alchohalic and is drunk most of the time. Prim Everdeen- Katniss's eleven year old sister, she was originaly chosen to be a tribute in the Hunger Games, but her loder sister interveened. She has a goat that helps feed her small family. Cinna- Katniss's stylist for the Hunger Games, he has to make Katniss look amazing for the opening part of the games. He also becomes a very good friend.

In the book, "The Hunger Games", a sixteen year old girl has to battle for her live against twenty three other childern her age. in a giant arena This event in which she is in is the Hunger Games, a fight to the death that was created by their ruling city of the Capitol. The sixteen year old girl, Katniss Everdeen volenteers for the hunger games when here eleven year old sister, Prim, is chosen. She then meets the other tribute from her district is a boy her age named Peeta Mellark who had once saved her life by giving her bread when her family was starving. She is then sent to the capitol with Peeta where she meets Haymitch Abernathy, the man who is supposed to help train and keep them both alive in the games. He is passed out, drunk in a pool of his own vommit. They arrive in the capitol after they meet him and spend the next five days training for the games. When the games finally start, there is a mad dash to an area where they keep all of the weapons and survival gear. They then spend the next three weeks fighting with each other until only there is two people remaining, Katniss and Peeta. I won't give away the ending, but it is a very good read that will have you attached to the book and there are very few boring parts (and the boring parts are very short.
