I think I saw someone I knew at work today
from high school
but I wasn't sure because her hair was white and
mostly gone from chemo
And I didn't know whether to go
Say Hi, Jill
because How are you and What have you been doing
seem like such dumb questions
when a person might be dying
So instead I reshelved books
by Nora Roberts and Carl Hiassen
while stealing peeks at her because I wasn't sure
if it was Jill
I hope she doesn't think I'm a freak for not saying Hello
