SOLIDS:
Solids are almost incompressible (hard to squeeze into smaller volume) and expand slightly when heated
The particles are packed tightly together usually in an ordered arrangement
Solid has a definite shape and volume that does not depend on the container
The general properties of solids reflect the orderly arrangement of their particles and the fixed locations of their particles
Melting is the conversion of a solid to a liquid and melting point is the temperature at which melthing occurs
Most solids substances are crystalline and arranged in a repeating organized pattern of unit cells (except amorphous solids)
Sublimation is the change from a solid to a vapor/gas without passing through the liquid state
Sublimation occurs in solids with vapor pressures that exceed atmospheric pressure at or near room temperature
The particles of solids vibrate around fixed points, but with enough energy (temperature) the particles can break fell of the attraction (melt)
