DEMOCRATIC PARTY
President Barack Obama is seen as the leader of the Democratic party. He is a former Illinois Senator.
Nancy Pelosi is the current and first female Speaker of the House. She is second in line for President.
Joe Biden was a Senator from Delaware for 36 years. He is currently the Vice President of the U.S. and is first in line for presidency.
All men, women, and children should recieve affordable healthcare.
The Democratic Party's views would typically be considered liberal.
FUTURE OF THE PARTY The Democrats currently control the executive and legislative branches. This is a great accomplishment for the party, and the President and Congress will take advantage of this to change legislation and influence the public with Democratic values. If Obama brings change in the right ways and the recession improves, he will be commended for this. He will most likely win a second term in office because of his large body of supporters and because he has already done so much in his first 100 days. If Obama's presidency ends on a high note and the Democrats have another strong candidate, there is potential for the party to win presidency again and have their ideals spread further.
HISTORY OF THE PARTY Jefferson's election in 1801 began the Democratic domination until the Civil War. In 1829 during Jackson's election, the Democratic-Republicans split and the Whigs challenged the Democrats, who were mostly farmers, debtors, and slaveholders from the South and West. In the 1850s the Whigs party fell apart and the Democrats split into North and South which led to the Civil War and Republican domination. When Roosevelt was elected during the Great Depression the Democrats regained power.
Hillary Clinton has had a great deal of experience in the Democratic party as First Lady, Senator of New York, and Secretary of State.
Robert Byrd is currently the President Pro Tempore in the Senate. He is the former Senate leader of the Democratic party and is third in line for President.
Education is important to be successful today and every child should have the right to graduate school and continue on to college.
The U.S. will win the war on terrorism in Afghanistan and Pakistan. This will be difficult because of the commitments in Iraq, but they are determined to win the war and give the Afghan children an education.
