Conveniantally located just 43 miles from Rome by way of the Via Appia, the Forum Appi is perfect for a day trip or a no hassle romantic getaway. One could also just stop here for the night before continuing on their way the next morning.
The Forum Appii has something for everyone, even the historical buffs. When Paul the Apostle traveled to Rome he stopped and stayed here. Upon hearing of his approach a few Romans traveled down the Via Appia and waited for him in the Forum Appii. This story is told in Acts 28:15 of the Bible.
The Forum Appii is believed to have been founded by Appius Caecus, the same man who was responcible for the construction on the Via Appia itself. The Forum Appii was one of three waystations along the Via Appia, the other two being Forum Clodii and Prima Porta.
