The Black Death
The Black Death was a horrible epidemic that spread far. It spread through flea bites. The flea would bite the black rat which got on the ships of trade. This would then infect the person. The disease eventually traveled to humans though the fleas and rats. It is still a mystery of why the widespread epidemic disappeared. The symptoms and conditions included fever, buboes, headaches, nausea, and vomiting. After contracting the disease a person would usually die 4-8 days after. The mortality rate was 90-95%. The Black Death took many people’s lives. Half of populations would die. People could not explain why and many said it was God’s punishment and blamed the Jews. Many Jewish communities were destroyed. The time period was 1347 through 1351. Some places even thought to use the dead bodies as a weapon to spread the epidemic to enemy countries.
