David
Sculpted from 1501 - 1504
Unlike previous illustrations of David which portray the hero after his victory over Goliath.
The original setting for the sculpture was outside the Palazzo de Signoria, the seat of civic government in Florence.
Michelangelo chose to represent David before the fight contemplating the battle came about.
Over his shoulder, is a sling shot that he used to defeat Goliath.
Symbolizes standing up to the Medici and the defense of liberties embodied in the Florentine Republic.
Portrays the Biblical King David in the nude.
It is a Carrara Marble Sculpture
