Welcome to California, the Golden State! California got its name from a novel about a mythical island called California that was rich and plentiful. The capital is Sacramento which has a population of 407,018. Here are some other cities and their populations : Los Angeles : 3,833, 995, San Diego : 1,223,000, San Jose : 895,000, and San Francisco : 808,977. California's state symbols are: State Bird : California Quail State Flower : California Poppy State Tree : California Redwood. A California fascinating first is that the 1967 Montery International Pop Festival was the first true rock-music festival. Rivers that run through my state are : Colorado River, Alamo River, Sacramento River, San Diego River, and the Guadalupe River. These famous people were born in my state : Nicholas Cage (actor), Stacey Nuveman (softball player), and Jessica Alba (actress). Oregon, Nevada, and Arizona border my state. Some of my state's natural resources are oil, natural gas, portland cement, gold, boron, sand and gravel, fish, and grapes. Forests, deserts, plains, hills, beaches, valleys, mountains, rivers, lakes, ponds, and the ocean are all found in my state. Here are the average temperatures per season : Winter : 60 Spring : 75 Summer : 90 Fall : 65 While we are touring my state you might want to go whale watching in Long Beach. This is fun for all ages and deffinitely is something you don't want to miss! It alsoteaches the importance of protecting our wildlife while going on an am,azing adventure. Moorten Springs Botanical Garden is filled with cacti and lots of desert creatures. It may not be the coolest place around but it still is amazing. For all you art lovers out there the Oxnard Carnegie Art Mueseum is just the place to be! It is filled with over 600 paintings, drawings, prints and photographs mainly by 20th century artists. California became a state in 1850 and was the 31st state.California is in the Pacific Time Zone. Their governor is Arnold Schwarzenegger and their senator is Dianne Feinsten. Three lakes that are in California are Baker Lake, Lake Arrowhead, and Gold Lake. The warmest temperature ever in California is 134 in Greenland Ranch, and the coldest is -45 in Boca. This state covers 163,707 sq. miles. Their professional sports teams are the Los Angeles Angels, the San Diego Chargers, the Golden State Warriors, and the San Jose Sharks.
