Arabia/Islam S.S. Project
By Bryan B.
_________
The Arabians developed new methods to conserve and store water. They stored rainwater behind large dams, and constructed large cisterns, or tanks to store the water in. Because of this they were able to store millions of gallons of water at one time. Camels were very important to them for many reasons. One reason is that camels require little water, so they can go a longer distance without water. Camels can also carry large loads, so people can focus more on traveling insted of having to make sure they dont trip and fall, alowing them to go faster. Camels could also suply them with milk when they needed a drink, so they didn't have to take extra supplies with them that they would have to carry, allowing them to go faster.
The Arabians got around by horses, camels, and obviously, walking. The Arabians also had a writen languge called Arabic. Their languge allowed them to communicate and share ideas easier with others. When the Arabians were deciding where to live, they knew they had to live in an area or place ruled by Muslums or people who practice their religion. They also knew they needed to live near where they work and work near where they live. They felt it was important to pray/worship in certain places. So they made sure they lived near their places of worship/prayer.
Arabia is located between Asia and Africa. Arabia is a desert with many oasises spread out in it. It is a peninsula surroundid by the Red Sea, the Mediteranian sea, and by the Persian Gulf and Arabian Sea. Arabia is a flat desert with dry, but fertile soil. Arabians were very smart and inventive. Most buildings and other structures they created were very decorative and colorful.
The Arabians traded with Asia over the Mediteranian Sea, and with Egypt over the Red Sea. Trading their goods made them wealthy, which allowed them to farm in larger areas. They traded alot, so it became part of their culture. The Muslums believed they were on a holy mission to spread their religion, so they conquered many places. When they conquered a country or place they forced the citizens to change their religions to Islam or they would be punished or killed. The only other religions other then Islam in the place they conquored was Christianity and Judism. Even though these religions were tolerated, they didn't have the same rights as the Muslums.
The Arabians created very decorative structures. They valued their health, astronomy/science, and algebra/math. They built many great structures and buildings. The Arabians improved the astrolobe to help them navigate. Their astronomers built observatories to study the moon and stars. They also improved their calendar. The people were very inventive and smart, always inventing, changing, and improving inventions and ideas.
