Pierre- Auguste Renior
In 1862 he began studying art in Paris under Charle Gleyre. In the 1890's he suffered from Rheumatism, which confined him to a wheel chair. He died in 1919 at age 78.
In 1880's he had a more softer, more supple approach. A trip to Italy inspired him to have a greater sense of solidarity. He then switched from contemporary to more timeless subjects such as nudes.
The painting displayed is called The Umbrellas.
Renoir was born in Limoges, France in 1841. He began painting desings in China in a porcelain factory.
Renoir painted impressionist snapshots of real life. He used bright colors and lots of light. He had a disciplined, formal technique, particularly doing portraits of women.
