James Longstreet
His Early Days He was born on January 8, 1821. He spent his early days in Augusta, Georgia. When his father died, he went to spend time with his mother to Somerville, Alabama. He became a Republican after an arguement at Gettysberg. ''He entered West Point from Alabama, graduated in 1842, and was wounded at Chapultepec in Mexico. With two brevets and the staff rank of major he resigned his commission on June 1, 1861, and joined the Confederacy.''
Although he was a Republican in the Mexican War, James Longstreet was part of the Confederate Army, as of 1861, in the Civil War. He had many promotions, including being promoted to Full Lt Colonel, to Full Brig-General, to Full Major-General and to Full Lt-Gen. Some blamed him for the loss at Gettysberg due to an arguement he had with Robert E. Lee. He was a very prominent and controversial figure in the Civil War. He was a huge figure in commanding battles in the Civil War and he is still recognized for that today, but the Confederate States of America lost and the United States of America won the crutial Civil War in 1865.
He was born in 1821. He faught in the Mexican War and was a Confederate General in the Civil War. He was ranked as a Major in the Mexican War and a lieutenant general in the battle of Fredericksburg. In 1896, he wrote a book called ''From Manassas to Appomattox'' where he expressed his opinions on war He died in 1904.
