Social Bookmarking and Beyond!
Makayla Olson and Danielle Krimmer
Social Bookmarking is a way to save your favorite websites and share them with others.
-You can save the websites, and use tags to describe each website. -You can set your tags to be private or public. -Some websites will verify that the bookmark still works periodically. -Social Bookmarking site users can search for resources by keyword, person, or popularity to see what each user has created. -Social bookmarking sites are being used as intelligent search engines.
Disadvantages: There are no specifications made for creating tags. The user can create them however he/she wants. Which poses a problem for someone searching for that topic, but who doesn't have the correct tag, or may be spelling the tag incorrectly. There is also a high spam risk when using a social bookmarking website.
Advantages: You can quickly narrow down what you are searching for by using a social bookmarking site, rather than a search engine. Since most social bookmarking websites show recently added lists, you can stay up to date with current and relevant information. Articles with the most votes will be the best to look at.
