Education: The literacy rate is 98%. Primary schools are located on most of the inhabited islands. Many kids attend private schools to learn Qur'an, which is sacred writings of Islam. There is optional exams taken at 16 & 18 years old. The young adults who choose to take the exams are given the oppurtunity to move to one of the larger islands for better schools.
Government: The Maldives is a republican nation. Their president is Mohamed Nasheed. They gained independence from Great Britain in 1965. The Citezens' Council has 48 members, 40 of which are elected by the citizens and 8 are appointed by the president. Their total population is about 385,925 people. The main jobs are fishing, repairing boats, and builidng. There is a lot of street violence and gangs that are mostly men. Also, the country is one of the poorest ones in the world. The life expectancy is 68 years. The official language is Dhivehi but most of the government speaks English also.

Arts and Recreation: The main sport for men is soccer. Women play bashi which is similar to soft ball bu t played with tennis rackets and tennis balls. Most men are strong swimmers and the women who can swim usually swim fully dressed. The most popular form of song and dance is bodu beru which means ''big drum''. It is named for the drum made from a hollowed out coconut tree trunk. The drum is usually played by men and is accompanied by singing and dancing. Also, most Maldivians are talented calligraphers.
Economy: Their economy relies heavily on tourism. The 2008 economic crisis dropped the amount of tourists each year, which was about 500,000. Fishing is their second largest industry. Coconuts and sweet potatoes are two of the most important agricultural products. Their currency is rufiyaa, which can be abbreviated to MVR.
Religions: The official religion is Islam. Other religions are outlawed , so is pork products and achohal because their Islamic ways forbid it. Although, the resort islands have those available. People who choose to practice other religions are done so secretly in private homes.
The capital is Male' and lies near the center of the archipelago. The islands are grouped in 26 coral reefs. Most of the islands have not much vegitation other than pine trees. The islands' total land area is about 116 square miles, thats it. About 80% of the islands are just 3 feet over sea level, even the tallest ones are just 6 feet. Eventually, if global warming continues and makes the ocean rise, the islands will be engulfed by the water completely. They experience a tropical monsoon climate. They have warm, dry weather during Dec.-March (northeast monsoon). During May-Oct. they expreience wet weather. Year round average temperatures range between 77 and 86 degree Fahrenheit.
Flag: The flag has a red nackground, which also serves as a border, with a green rectangle placed in the center. The green signifies life and prosperity. The red is a symbol of the brqaavery and blood of the nation's heroes. Also, in the center of the green rectangle, there is a white cresent. It is a symbol of their Islamic faith.
Cuisine: The pain part of a Maldivian's diet it rice and fish. Their food is usually very spicy, chillies or other spices are comonly added. Betel nuts wrapped in leaves are eaten after every meal.. Tea is their most common drink. The breakfast, or sai boan, usually consists of fish cury with roshi, a flat bread. The common lunch and dinner is garudhiya, whcih is tuna soup with chilies, rice, and lemon. Another popular dish is fried reef fish that is heavily spiced and served with rice. They usually don't eat desert but on special occasions coconut and other sweet dishes are served. During the month of Ramadan, which is a period of fasting, they eat small snacks.
