No news is good news
July 12th , 1942
Dearest Freddie,
I sit and wait for news around our tiny kitchen table,
I received your last letter two months ago. They say no news is good news.
Tears flow freely down my cheeks when I think of you, Freddie. I think of the days before our engagement,
the dances, the walks in the moonlight, but most of all laughter.
Freddie, the house is silent now. No children play on the street, they've been evacuated out of London.
I can hear the keening and wailing of the women up and down the raod - crying for their men who aren't
coming home. I'm hopeful that you'll return to me my love, hale and hearty. The image of you in your uniform
that day on the platform, you were so handsome and full of optimism, the light of it shone out your eyes.
I'm sure I can get the sparkle back, the light wasn't there when you returned on leave those three months back.
I have some good news for you.
We are to be a family, a real family. I already show, soon I'll be the size of a house. Its exciting. You're to be a father, Freddie! I had thought about telling you sooner but I wanted to be sure.
Have to go now Freddie darling, I'll write again soon. The postman is at the door, he looks rather somber today. You're to be a father, Freddie! I had thought about telling you sooner but I wanted to be sure.
I wonder how many women have had their hearts broken today? Maybe the Postman will divulge the reason for You're to be a father, Freddie! I had thought about telling you sooner but I wanted to be sure.
his melancholy face. Return to us soon, Freddie. We need you now more than ever. You're to be a father, Freddie! I had thought about telling you sooner but I wanted to be sure.
I love you You're to be a father, Freddie! I had thought about telling you sooner but I wanted to be sure.
