Federalist Era Problem 6
The problem was that Western Farmers in Pennsylvania have openly rebelled against excise tax on whiskey. This tax was implemented by Hamilton to help fund the national debt. Some 7000 frontier soldiers marcher on Pittsburgh to stop collection of the tax.
President Washington gathered an army of 15,000 militiamen to disperse the rebels.
This solution worked due to the larger amount of militiamen sent to disperse the rebels. The uprising soon collapsed.
Two men were convicted of treason, but were later pardoned by the president.
