Carpetbaggers
There is no exact picture for a Scalawag, but I think they were a happy, corrupt bunch.
There are still carpetbaggers today! Be careful! Especially if the have a briefcase! Hide your Money and Credit Cards!
Carpetbaggers were people who went to the south during reconstruction. They thought after the civil war, during the south was defeated, the south would be at its weakest point. So, the "Carpetbaggers" would go to the weaked southerners to con them to give them a quick buck and get out of town fast!
Scalawags were a little bad like Carpetbaggers. Scalawags worked with Carpetbaggers and Freedmen(former black slaves) to take control of their states and local government. This coalition was able to control every ex-Confederate state except Virginia.

Hundreds of Women from the north moved to the south; many to teach newly freed african-american children. beacuse during the time when african-americans were enslaved, most southern states prohibited the children from being taught how to read or even attend school!
Freedmen Education
At the first years in Georgia, 8,000 freed slaves attended their schools. 8 years later, at least 20,000 freed slaves attended freedmen schools!!!
