BUGS!
3 out of 4 animals on Earth are arthropods!
Arthropods are the largest group of animals on Earth.
ARTHROPODS Arthropods have segmented bodies, six or more segmented legs, and exoskeletons. They live in trees, oceans, streams, ponds, rivers, lakes, on land and under ground. Most are small but a few are quite large.
ARACHNIDS Spiders, scorpions, daddy longlegs, chiggers, ticks and mites are Arachnids. Arachnids do not have antennae. All arachnids have eight legs. Arachnids have 2 main body parts, the cephalothorax and the abdomen. .Most spiders have eight eyes. In spiders the spinarettes which make webs or orbs are in the abdomen. In scorpions the stinger is in the abdomen. Some spiders and scorpions have poison. True daddy long-legs are not arachnids.
INSECTS Insects have a hard exoskeleton. Insects have compound eyes. Insects have 3 body parts: head, thorax and abdomen. Insects have six jointed legs (3 pairs) and 2 antennae. There are 32 orders of insects. Here are my favorite ones!
CRUSTACEANS Lobsters, crabs, shrimp, crayfish, lice and barnacles are familiar crustaceans. There are almost 52,000 different kinds, and some are delicious! Crustaceans have two body parts, a head and a trunk, and many have pincers and one or two sets of antennae. Most crustaceans live in water and most are very small.
