PRESIDENT GEORGE WASHINGTON
I entered the Presidency in a time of great crisis, my young historians – read on to find out the challenges of the time.
At this time, most Americans still do not feel “American”, since there is much more loyalty to one’s state than to the nation as a whole.
Americans are still mistrustful of a powerful government - and are worried about a single executive, since all they can remember is a monarchy.
The nation still has a rather large debt remaining from the Revolution and leaders have different ideas regarding the economics of the nation.
Foreign countries are still questioning the power of the young United States.
America is starting to battle Native Americans as the country expands to the West. People want to move past the Alleghenies and into the Northwest Territories.
The ratification battle demonstrates that many Americans are divided in the philosophy over how their country should be governed

Washington's age and health were becoming an issue as well - and we would face a few health scares during his administration.
