My Year of Birth: 1996 vs. 2010 Now that I look back at all of the research I’ve done, I found that, maybe I wouldn’t exactly pick to live in 1996. In 1996, the president was Bill Clinton and vice president was Al Gore. Al Gore and Bill Clinton were great leaders, and not to mention deregulated television. So politically and economically 1996 was probably a better and more financially comfortable time to live in, as opposed to right now when everyone is pinching pennies. A big thing for me is that in 1996, technology wasn’t as advanced, and although some people think that some technology is bad, I think that right now it could become improved. Things like “Smart Cars” wouldn’t be available to the public, or even something like digital cameras. I don’t feel exactly pressured with technology, but I do think it improves, or can improve, daily life. In conclusion, I’ve found that while one might be fiscally happy in 1996, they may not be technologically comfortable. I would definitely choose to live in 2010 over 1996, because although we are in recession right now we are advancing in other things. Such as science, we now know there was no life on Mars, while in 1996 scientists were still questioning it. It is true, though; that the first time an animal had ever been ever cloned was cloned in 1996. People were also a bit unhappy to that Tupac died in 1996 as well. So, although the country may be in recession now I believe that there is always a rainbow at the end of the road, so I’ll wait to see it instead of delaying my chances and going into the past.
