Photocopy machines have an achromatic* len that reflect the image onto the drum of the copier. The lens is on the scanning arm which also has light source usaully a fluorescent bulb that goes across the length of the document. When the light hits the document the mirror below the light source reflect the images onto the lens. Then lens then reflects a clear and crisp copy of the image onto the drum. The lens can also change the size depending on what size is wanted. The closer the the len and the drum are the smaller the copy and the further apart the bigger the copy.
*Achromatic lens reduce colour distortion at the focal point
