Origins of ALF
•To inflict economic damage on those who profit from the misery and exploitation of animals. •To liberate animals from places of abuse, i.e. laboratories, factory farms, fur farms etc., and place them in good homes where they may live out their natural lives, free from suffering. •To reveal the horror and atrocities committed against animals behind locked doors, by performing nonviolent direct actions and liberations •To take all necessary precautions against harming any animal, human and non-human.
The idea was official born after an incident in which two men were arrested for protesting at the Oxford Laboratory Animal Colonies they decided that it was necessary to form an organization to protect animals and this grew to become the ALF.

There is actually no ‘one’ founder nor leader of ALF. Every member is their own leader and the membership is based upon the idea that any group of people or person who is a vegetarian, vegan, and/or carries out action according to the ALF guidelines can proclaim themselves as an ALF member.
