Genocide: In this poem, I used many literary devices such as repetition when in many lines throughout the poem, I begin with the word “Where..” followed by characteristics of the setting. I also use rhyming in non-regular places in the poem such as when I match “fall” in line two with “walls” in line three. Personification is also used in my poem in line two, when I describe the shadows as walking.
Fly Away: In this poem, I used Rhyming by creating stanzas of three lines, all of which rhyme with the other two lines in their stanza. For example, in stanza one, the three words from each line that rhyme are “Away”, “Place”, and “Stay”. The rhyme pattern is like this until line seven, when I begin to write in two-line stanzas which both lines of each stanza rhyming. I also used repetition by repeating “fly away” in lines one and 15. I repeated the want to “leave this place” although with different wording, in lines two and 16.
Hitler is My Name: In this poem, I used rhyming, but again with no specific pattern or rhyme scheme. Throughout the poem I have chosen some lines such as lines two and three to rhyme, by putting together “match” and “attached”. I feel this catches the reader’s attention while their reading and draws it to important hints in the poem. I have also used personification when I described the speaker’s eyes as “dancing over the rows”.
Frozen: In this poem, I used repetition by describing many things throughout the poem with the word “Frozen”. Some examples of this are when I described “Frozen wire”in line one and “Frozen Faces” in line two. I also used rhyming by writing in stanzas of two rhyming lines. The rhyme scheme is AABB throughout the poem.
Night Raid~: I did not use so many literary devises in this poem but I did use rhyming. I wrote in three-line stanzas again and made each line rhyme with the other three in its stanza. An example of this is how I rhymed the words “Walls”, “falls”, and “calls” in the first stanza. I chose to write the last stanza in two lines because I felt that ending it abruptly contributed to the overall mood of the poem and also implied actions that have taken place. This lets the reader realize what is taking place.
