Julia Alvarez was born March 27, 1950 in the Domincan Republic ~ 1997 her dad was in grave danger ~1998 Julia and her parents had to flee to New York ~1999 she was dealing with immigration ~2000 finished with her Spanish and started reading in English ~2001 wrote her first novel
Julia Alvarez isn't only great, she is a surviver. She conquerd a new language and way of life. She also learned to deal with racism. She could have died in the Dominica Republic, but her parents fled to the United States. Her father worked in an underground movement and was a target of an attempted assasination. She fled to New York with her family. She learned English when she was 10 years old, and she paid a lot of attention which helped her become a writer
