The Silk Roads created a means of trade, transport & cultural diffusion. Prehistoric Egyptians had imported goats and sheep from Southwest Asia. The trader had to be clever in order to exchange goods quickly and gauge the demand for the item at the market. In a historical retrospect, the Silk Road was as important for exchanging and learning about different cultures, as it was for the exchange of goods.
A wide variety of goods was available at the bazaars. It was often advantageous for traders to buy a range of goods in case the price of one item fell below the price necessary for the trader to make a profit.
I bet Marco Polo would have been more than happy to purchase or trade this beautiful silk garment!
The Silk Roads were important paths for cultural. commercial & technological exchanges between traders, merchants, pilgrims, missionaries, soldiers, nomads & urban dwellers from ancient china, ancient india, persia & mediterranean countries for almost 3,000 years
extending over 5,000 miles, the routes enabled people to transport goods, especially luxuries such as camels, silk, satin, slaves, gun powder, noodles, matches, salt, horses, lapdogs, metal work, glassware, woven goods, wine & much more
A trader or merchant who wished to make a profit from trading at the different centers along the Silk Road would initiate a trade expedition, a journey for the purpose of exchanging goods. He would save or borrow the money he needed for his trip. If he borrowed the money, the lender expected him to give back more than he borrowed at a high interest rate. This made the trip riskier and more costly. After the trader had obtained enough money, he had to decide which trade routes to take.
