POLITICS OF THE 1930s and the great depression.
Men wore their pockets inside-out to show poverty. These morbid fashion statements were called ''Hoover Flags,'' another stab at the man deemed resposible.
To understand why to stock market crashed, you must look at the market before the crash. After WWI, there was a large boom in factory production, with companies like ford brimming with profits. The crash lasted a period of 5 days, the first being ''Black Thursday'' on October 24 of 1929, when the amount of trades rose by 300%. This casued a severe lack of information, thus leading to the crash.
This is obvioulsy not the case, however. The recession was caused because people would loan from banks in order to buy stock, and put the stock up as collateral. Once the crash occured, banks were left with these worthless loans and a lot of people lost a lot of money.

During the 1930s, small shanty towns were built during hte great deppression, named ''hoovervilles'' after President Hoover. most houses in these towns were built out of small planks of wood and cardboard. paper, along with a stove and some cooking utensils. More skilled workers were able to build houses out of stone.
President Hoover was president during the year 1929, and took much of the blame for the great deppression, even the stock market crash occured before he had even entered office.
In the year 1932, president FDR was elected during the height of the great deppression. He became widely popular by forging a new political alliance with northern middle class workers and southern farmers.
