Paul Roberson (1898-1976)
Paul was famous for his singer and acting but that's not all he was very smart and very athletic. He was also involved in politics.
Born in Princeton N.J. Attended Rutgers University were he was part of the national college honor society and he was a starter in football. He also played in an all-American team.
In the 1930's Robeson became involved with national and international movements for peace, racial justice and better labor conditions. He also supported independence for African colons from their European ruler. This created friendship with the Soviet Union.
In 1950 the United States canceled Robeson’s passport because of his friendship with the Soviet Union. His musical and theatrical career was ruined afterwards.
In 1958 Robeson regained his passport and moved to London.
1963 he returned the U.S. because of his ill health.
