Theme:I think the theme would be revenge and love because Ichabod wanted Katrina as much as Brom, so he competed with him just for Katrina.Setting:The setting of Irving's story is the Dutch settlement of Tarry Town, New York and takes place in 1790. Sleepy Hollow was a seculded little area of the town itself. Biography of The Author: Washington Irving was an American author. He was born on April 3, 1783 and died on November 28, 1859. He was also a essayist, biographer, magazine editor, diplomat, and historian. His litracy was to write romanticism. There is a picture of when he was young in the work on the images above.Favorite Part: My favorite part of the book would be when Ichabod competes with Brom. I liked this part because some of the words in the main event were well-chosen, descriptive words.Main Characters: The main protagnists/characters of the story are Ichabod, Katrina, and Brom Bones. Genre: The genre is mostly realistic fiction, but there is a bit of fantasy in the end of the book. Awards: Here are the list of awards:Academy AwardParamount AwardParent's Choice AwardBest Art Direction Awardand more!
Ichabod competes with Abraham "Brom Bones" Van Brunt, the town rowdy, for the hand of 18-year-old Katrina Van Tassel, the daughter and sole child of a wealthy farmer, Baltus Van Tassel. As Crane leaves a party he attended at the Van Tassel home on an autumn night, he is pursued by the Headless Horseman, who is supposedly the ghost of a Hessian trooper who had his head shot off by a stray cannonball during "some nameless battle" of the American Revolutionary War, and who "rides forth to the scene of battle in nightly quest of his head". Ichabod mysteriously disappears from town, leaving Katrina to marry Brom Bones, who was "to look exceedingly knowing whenever the story of Ichabod was related". Although the nature of the Headless Horseman is left open to interpretation, the story implies that the Horseman was really Brom in disguise.
