Ronald Reagan served two terms. From 1981-1989. He was the 40th President
Biographical Information: He was born 1911 to John and Nelle Reagan. in Tampice, IL. He had a hard childhood because he had to keep moving because of his dad, and his dad was an alcoholic. Reagan enjoyed public speaking since he was a young boy. In 1937 he signed a contract with Warner Bros for seven years and appeared in over 50 films. He narrarated taining films during WW II.
Reagan's wife divorced him in 1948, but got remarried four laters to Nancy Davis. Shortly after he remarried he was offered a job as the host of General Electric Theater, which made him the most recognizable man in America. His career with public speaking started when he was selected to serve as the company's national spokesperson. In 1962 Reagan changed from democrat to republican. He served as the governor of California for eight years. Ronald Reagan decided he wanted to run for president because he, Wanted to show America how to dream again. He defeated Carter in 1980 and called it the Reagan Revolution of 1980

On the day that Reagan was became president Iran released the remaining 52 prisoners that had been held hostage at the U.S. embassy for 444 days. Reagan is shot on March 30th 1981 by John Hinckley Jr. Hinckley was suffering brain damage, and just started shooting Reagan was shot in the chest, causieng his lung to collapse. On Augiust 3rd, 1981 Air traffic controllers go on strike, but Reagan gives the 48hours to return to work, and fires those who don't. In the fall of 1982, the nation falls into its worse recession since the Great Depression. In 1983 there was a bombing in Beirut, Lebanon so Reagan pulls marines out. On January 15th 1986 Reagan signs a legislation making Martin Luther King Jr's. birthday a national holiday to be celebrated on the third monday of January. On June 12th 1987 Reagan tells Mr. Gorbachev to Tear doen this Wall.; talking about the Berlin Wall. The main significance of Reagan's presidency was that he helped bring down the Soviet Union. He had a good friendship with Mr. Gorbachev, and with his help he was able to start the cause of breaking up the USSR into individual countries. When Reagan left office on 1989 he left with the highest approval rating since Franklin Roosevelt. Overall Reagan brought his sense of humor and charm to his presidency called, the “Reagan magic”.
Reagan was voted the Greatest American, and he has inspired many people with his words and actions and with many memorable speehes.
After Reagan left office in 1989 the Berlin Wall came down In November Reagan published *An American Life*, which is his life story. On November 4th 1991 The Reagan library and museam is dedicated; it's one of 10 in the U.S. In 1993 Reagan is diagnosed with Alzheimer;s disease. Feburary 4th 1988 the senate passed a proplsal to rename the Washington National airport, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. On June 5th 2004, Reagan dies peacefully at his home in California. At age 93, he is the longest-lived president in American history.
