Lack of unity in the Greek city-states was key in the Roman conquer of Greece. Without almost constant wars within Greece itself the Greek people might have banded together and defeated the Romans, if not atleast deterred them for a few more years.
TheFall of Greece
Despite the fall of Greece ,from the political perspective, to the Roman empire the beliefs and traditions of the Greek people carried on to the future generations of the territory formally known as Greece. Essentially the culture of two empires merged into one.
The Fall of Rome
Rome was simply too great.
Higher taxes result in loss of agriculture
Constant invasions took a toll financially.
Poor leadership throughout the years
The dark and middle ages were brought on by the collapse of the Roman empire and basically the civilized world. The downfall factors affected the dark/middle ages because the Vandals, Goths and Huns couldn't learn from the mistakes of the Romans and Greeks.
