MAY 4th,1970 KENT STATE SHOOTING WAS IT NECESSARY OR JUSTIFIED?
On May 4th, 1970 in Kent,Ohio a terrible thing happend. Four college students were shot and killed. Another nine were wounded. They were shot at by members of there own National Guard in Ohio. They were shot while protesting the war at Vietnam. This tragic situation could have greatly been avoided. In some aspects it goes against freedom of speech, the students were just speaking there minds.
Martial Law- "The law temporarily imposed upon an area by state or national military forces when civil authority has broken down or during wartime military operations."
In The Guards Defense- In 1970 the National Guard was a little different then in todays world. The Guards used to work only one weekend out of the year. They were not used to being "attacked" as they were. The students had thrown rocks and sticks at the guards. This is not as life threatening as the guns that they were waving around. It just wasn't right.
It's pretty crazy. For speaking there minds, four students were robbed the rest of there lifes. It's wrong. It's also unjustice. We should see it as wrong and imoral. It was not justified.
