Charles Dickens
Charles Dickens was one of the most known and famous authors for his time period in London.
Charles John Huffam Dickens was born on February 7, 1812., in Portsmouth England and died on June 9, 1870 at age 58. He is to be concidered to be one of english's greatest authors ever to write. He was the most well known author of the Victorian Era. He wrote many great stories like Oliver Twist, A Tale of Two Cities, A Christmas Carol, and David Copperfield.
Charles was born the second out of eight children. He was wealthy until his father was thrown into prison. He began to work at a factory in very harsh conditions. He later became a stenographer and met a girl that he liked but her parents broke them up. He then later became a journalist. The bad events in Dickens life were incorperated into his stories that he wrote.
A Christmas Carol
A Christmas Carol is about an old, mean, greedy man named Ebenezer Scrooge. He hates everyone and anything to do with Christmas. He is visited by his old partner and three ghosts of the past, present, and future. He learns how mean he is and that there is still time to change his mean ways. He wakes up and visits all these people and is very generous to everyone. People are surpised about how much he has changed. He becomes nice and is happy. It is one of Dickens more famous novels for its Christmas spirit.
Oliver Twist
Oliver Twist is about a young, poor boy named Oliver who was born into a workhouse. There he is treated cruelly by Mr. Bumble. Oliver escapes and goes to London where he joins the Fagin gang. He is taught how to be a pickpocket by The Artful Dodger and Bill Sikes. Oliver is saved by a Mr. Brownlow who becomes his benefactor. A plot against Oliver by his half brother Monk is foiled. Oliver finds out that he is supposed to inherit money. He is then adopted by Mr. Brownlow. This novel shows what it was like to be poor in the Victorian Era.
David Copperfield
David Copperfield is about a man that tells about his life. David lives with his mother and his stepfather Mr. Murdstone. He goes to school and meets some friends. Davids mother dies and he goes home to work at Mr. Murdstone's wine-bottling shop. David goes out and meets his dads sister miss Betsey Trotwood, who tells him to become a lawyer. In his apprentiship he falls in love with Dora Spenlow, who he then marries. Dora later dies and David goes off traveling. When he returns he marries Agnes Wickfield and persues his career in writing. People think that this is a story about Dickens own life.
