I think that Odysseus resembles an Epic Hero in this episode, not for physical, but for emotional and mental reasons. At Penelope's lowest hope left for him to return, he speaks to her as a beggar. He assures Penelope that Odysseus is on his way home now, and that he will be home very soon. The beggar describes Odysseus' clothes and gives Penelope hope and the strength to refuse the suitors' marrige proposals.
The wallpaper resembles Penelope waiting for Odysseus and the tree is what their bed is made of in the nect episode.
