Parents: Our Language Arts class focuses on vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension skills. We will focus on a new story each week. Each story introduces new vocabulary words and new comprehension skills to practice. Students will be tested on skills practiced throughout the week through a Selection Test, Weekly Skills Test, and Vocabulary Test. All testing will take place at the end of the week. Here are the reading comprehension strategies we will focus on this year: Predicting/Infering Decoding Summarizing Evaluating Questioning Monitoring/Clarifying In addition, we will cover the following comprehension skills: Noting Details Cause and Effect Drawing Conclusions Making Generalizations
