The cell wall of a fungus is composed of chitin, glucans, and other polymers. This structure is very dynamic as it changes during various processes. A glucan molecule is a polysaccharide. Polysaccharides are complex carbohydrates. Mannoproteins are proteins with large numbers of simple sugars attached. A polymer is a large molecule (macromolecule) made of repeating structural units connected by covalent (the sharing of pairs of electrons between atoms) chemical bonds.

Fungal Cell Wall
Chitin is stained blue in this image of a fungus called Tricoderma reesei
The fungal cell wall contains chitin which provides a strong but flexible structure for the fungi. Chitin is found in the exoskeletons of insects and crustaceans (lobsters, crabs, etc.).
