Puritan Tiger Beetle History in Connecticut The Puritan Tiger Beetle was collected in several towns up the Massachusetts border in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Currently, they are found at a single cluster of 3 small sites. The total population in New England is less than 1,000. More than 99 percent of the remaining New England population is found only in Connecticut. Reasons For Decline in Connecticut One reason for decline is the avalibility of sandy beaches can make colonies become to crowed. Another reason for its decline is due mostly to bank stabilization around cities and by habitat loss due to flooding behind dams.
Habitat The Puritan Tiger Beetle resides on the banks on the Connecticut River. Burrows are dug in upper shoreline areas with scattered vegetation and sandy clay soils. The likely reason for this is due to it natural predators, mainly insectivorous birds and larger insects (an insectivor is a organism thats diet is mostly of insects) .

How To Stop its Decline One important thing we can do is prevent flooding inorder to save its only suitable habitat in Connecticut. Also by cutting back on building and construction near beaches they won't be disturbed or harmed in any way.
