This is Miss Havisham, who Pip thinks is his benefactor, but she is not. Miss Havisham is a very old lady, and is very rich because of the brewery her father owned. She seems to be very snobby, but Pip keeps coming back to her house, because of her very pretty daughter, Estella.
This is the convict, who IS Pip's benefactor. Pip meets this convict right away in the story, and the convict tells Pip to bring him a file and wittles, which are food. Pip eventually finds out after a while that this convict is his benefactor.
Great Expectations
Charles Dickens
This is Estella Havisham, Miss Havisham's adopted daughter. She is mean and cruel to Pip, and uses him as practice to break his heart. Even though she is like this, Pip still loves her, and pursues her.
This is Philip Pirrip, but everyone calls him Pip. He is the main character in this story, Great Expectations. He does come upon Great Expectations, and his life is turned around when he moves to London.
This is Joe Gargary, Pip's sister's husband. He is Pip's dearest friend, and companion. He is a blacksmith, and Pip wants to work with him until that one day.
I picked all of these characters, because I felt that they had the most importance in the story. Even if you don't know they are important right in the beginning, they do turn out to have a major role. I really enjoyed this story, because it all came back in the end, and this story didn't leave you hanging, because there were two different endings, and you could pick which one you liked.
