The Order of the Red Star Watch
Order of the Red Star on the front with red enameled star wings. Order was introduced in 1930 and remained one of the most prestigious awards for outstanding achievements in the defense of the USSR and for actions in maintaining state security.
The object I have chosen is a pocket watch worn by my great grandfather in World War II. Soldiers on the battlefield wore the pocket watch. It was used to coordinate attacks and could even be used as a basic navigation device to find south.
This man is carrying the watch with him.
The watch has a cover that opens when you press the button on the side, which could also be used to set the time. It is attached to a chain so you can’t loose it. It was attached to the buttonhole and tucked into a pocket and then taken out when in use.
