For Communicating with people with disabilities
III. Always identify yourself and the people you are with to a person that is blind
II. Shake hand when introduced.
IV. If you offer assistance, wait until you get an answer; then listen carefully to the directions.
I. Speak directly to the person
VII. Listen attentively when talking with people who have difficultly speaking and wait for them to finish.
IX. Tap a person who is deaf on the shoulder to get their attention.
VI. Do not lean against or on someone's wheelchair.
X. RELAX
VIII. Place yourself at eye-level when speaking to someone in a wheelchair or on crutches.
V. Treat adults as adults.
